General Application Information
All applicants must:
- Be an 8th-grade student currently taking Algebra I
- Students in 9th grade can apply, but you must be on the college prep track, completing Algebra I in eighth Grade. Students CANNOT apply after their 9th grade year.

- Any student who has failed any classes prior to applying will be subject to review by the STEM committee.
- Fill out an online application
- Applicants will complete 2 Essays on the day of the interiews, under the supervision of a teacher or administrator.
- Applicants must have one teacher recommendation.
2024-2025 Application Information
- The Wilkes Barre Area STEM Academy will be accepting applications for the 2024-2025 STEM cohort starting March 14 and will close Thursday, April 4 at midnight.
- Interested students should be currently enrolled in a Wilkes Barre Area School District, Bear Creek Charter School, Wilkes Barre Academy, St. Nick's 8th grade class and will have completed Algebra 1 prior to the 2024-2025 school year.
- Once applications are processed all applicants will be interviewed in-person on a date to be announced.
- All applicants will receive a letter by email by the end of the 2023-2024 school year whether the student made it into the STEM Academy and further details will follow.
