Math Department Philosophy

The Secondary Mathematics Department of Wilkes-Barre Area School District has revised the math curriculum to be fully aligned to the Pennsylvania Common Core State Standards with the following goals in mind:
  1. To prepare students for the future in a complex educational field and workforce.
  2. To coordinate instruction among all grade levels.
  3. To standardize the curriculum in all secondary schools of the district.
The fundamental goal of the Mathematics department is to give quality mathematics instruction to all students. To attain this goal, we provide a sequence of mathematics courses at a grade and ability level that will allow students to succeed not only in life but also on the state assessment exams.
