School Garden Project

Students

Together with Wilkes University, students at Heights-Murray Elementary School have begun a school garden project. Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society at Wilkes generously donated $1,000 toward the project. Student fundraising and a grant from Tractor Supply Company in Wilkes-Barre will help to complete the project. Heights-Murray was one of only 65 schools in the state to receive the "Dig-It" School Garden Grant" from the company.
Fencing has already been put up at the school for the garden and raised beds will be put in place in the spring by students from both Heights-Murray and Wilkes. Ms. Kelley Campas, Mrs. Heather Cook, and Mr. Kevin Sickle will help oversee the planting of vegetables, herbs, fruits, and natural pest-deterring plants. The students in elementary school have also been compositing in an effort to prepare for this project.
