11th Annual Title I Family Literacy Program

Literacy Program Winners

The Wilkes-Barre Area School District held their 11th Annual Title I Family Literacy Program at Genetti’s Conference Center in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Families of all students in grades 3 through 7 were invited to participate. More than 220 students, parents, teachers and administrators attended. The Family Math and Reading Workshops are designed to be both informative and fun. The primary goal of the program is to model for parents how best to aid children in acquiring skills needed to succeed in school.

Following breakfast and a presentation to outline the district’s federally funded math and reading programs, parents and students joined teachers in grade-level workshops where math and reading activities were presented. Students and parents were provided with resources to take home to build on skills presented during the workshops. These resources included calculators, rulers, novels and standards-based math & reading books.

Participating students also entered a drawing to win a Kindle Fire together with an Amazon Gift Card to help students to begin building a digital library.
