WVIA to Honor G.A.R. Students as Artists of the Week

Scarantino and Shaver

G.A.R. Memorial High School is proud to announce that Nataliya Scarantino and Anna Shaver have been honored by being named “WVIA Artists of the Week”.

Scarantino has been named the WVIA Performing Artist of the Week and Shaver has been named the WVIA Visual Artist of the Week for the week of Sunday, May 14th through Saturday, May 20th.

“I am so happy and appreciative that WVIA coordinates this program and that our students get this opportunity to showcase their talents and hard work,” said Ann Gubitose, G.A.R. Art Teacher.

This campaign is designed to call attention to high school students who have excelled in the study of the arts. The partnering high school selects two students, one visual artist and one performing artist, who are then interviewed at the WVIA Public Media studios for a digital video vignette. The “Artist of the Week” vignette showcases the student, high school, and school district and salutes them for their artistic achievement. The students will be featured across all WVIA television, radio and digital platforms for one week and the accompanying vignette will be available to watch on wvia.org and pbs.org for one year. Selected artists will then be in the running to compete for “WVIA Artist of the Year”, which is announced in May.

The mission of G.A.R. Memorial High School is to educate, enlighten and inspire each student to grow as a responsible and productive citizen. This mission is accomplished through a dynamic, comprehensive curriculum and collaboration among school, family and community.

WVIA Public Media is a catalyst, convener and educator, using media, partnerships, powerful ideas and programs to improve lives and advance the best attributes of an enlightened society.
