Description:
WBASD Unites for Awareness is a joined effort between the students, staff, and administrators of the Wilkes-Barre Area School District in order to raise awareness and break down barriers about mental illness and suicide. Through this walk, all Wilkes-Barre Area Junior/Senior High Schools will unite together and raise money for vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives. Additionally, our mission is to remind ourselves and each other that we are all in this together, we are all loved, and that we mean the world to someone.

WHAT: A suicide awareness/prevention program and walk
A morning assembly presented by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Following the presentation, students will then be bussed to Wilkes-Barre Area Memorial Stadium where they will unite for a Suicide Awareness/Prevention Walk and Rally.
**Bagged lunches will be provided**

WHEN: Thursday, October 22 (Rain date: Friday ,October 23)

WHO: Seventh through twelfth grade students from GAR, Meyers, Coughlin, and Solomon Jr. High School

WHERE: Home Buildings: 8:45-9:45 : “More Than Sad Assembly”
Wilkes-Barre Area Memorial Stadium:
10:00-1:00: Suicide Awareness Walk and Rally

HOW: Students and faculty wishing to participate can purchase a “WBASD Unites for Awareness” T-Shirt for $10.00. Proceeds from the t-shirt sale will go to the local chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. T-Shirts may be worn in place of dress code shirt on day of the event (pants must be dress code). All students will also receive a globe stress ball keychain. Key chains are to be used by students to give to others in order to spread hope to someone who may need to be reminded that they “mean the world to someone”.
Any student wishing to participate that does not wish to purchase a t-shirt may make a donation of $2 and receive a globe stress ball keychain. All purchases and registration will be done through your respective Key Clubs.
