Kistler Teachers Participate in Readiness Training for Project Lead the Way
Twenty-eight teachers at Dr. David W. Kistler Elementary recently completed the Launch Building Level Readiness Training for Project Lead the Way (PLTW). Through PLTW Launch, elementary students have the opportunity to experience rigorous and relevant STEM learning. The curriculum aligns with Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and English Language Arts, Next Generation Science Standards, and other national and state standards.
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning that yields greater complexity than is provided by the four disciplines in isolation. In addition, STEM education better reflects the challenges of the world around us. Effective STEM education has the potential to help students not only learn important STEM content, but also to help students apply knowledge and skills to solve meaningful and socially relevant real-world problems. Through STEM education, we can create the next generation of technology-literate innovators who are able to apply the logical processes of science, mathematics, and engineering design to solve the challenges of our future.
Teachers were trained in APB Approach of instruction which is activities, project, and problem based instruction. Teachers were able to explore modules of learning in engineering, biomedical, and computer sciences with a focus on critical thinking and problem solving.
