Children's Lit and Diversity Club Reading Day

On February 23rd, 2017, Coughlin High School teacher, Mrs. Brooks along with the students of her Children’s Literature classes and the Diversity Club went to Solomon/Plains Elementary school to read and create projects with the kindergarten, first, and second grades. The Children’s Literature classes have been planning and creating lessons for the elementary students for about a month.

Some of the books that were read were I Am Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., If You Give a Mouse A Cookie, and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Their corresponding projects were “I Have a Dream” dream catchers, where the students wrote their dreams on them, a mouse paper plate eating cookies, and spaghetti and meatball people. The students arrived around 9 in the morning and stayed until 11:30 before returning back to their scheduled classes.

The Children’s Literature classes along with the Diversity Club agreed that the trip was a success and is worth repeating next year. The children participating also had a great time. The elementary classes involved created cards and teachers emailed Mrs. Brooks thanking her for a fun filled morning.
