STEM Environmental Sustainability Class Receives Grant
Mr. Pasone submitted the following proposal:
The Wilkes Barre Area School District STEM Academy proposes an idea to test soil and water quality in the area in and around the Susquehanna River to determine what plants would be fit for that environment and if crops could be grown and consumed by the general population, in an area which is exposed to frequent change in water level and temperature.  The students in the Environmental Sustainability class will aslo be comparein nutrients in the river soil, the soild on the bank of the river, the soil in the surrounding area, and store bought soil.  The purpose of this exercise is to see which is more beneficial to plant life and determine whether planting near the river is more rewarding than in another area.

This project is expected to draw students' attention to their community and assist in finding ways to utilize their surroundings for the betterment of society.
