Welcome to Mrs. Lyons' Page

Hello and welcome to my educational resource page. My name is Alice Lyons and I have been teaching with the Wilkes-Barre Area School District at James M. Coughlin High School since January of 2003.

During my tenure at Coughlin, I have had experience teaching 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade English. At the start of the 2014-2015 school year, I began teaching the newly created Public Speaking Course, for which I had the privilege of creating the district curriculum in the summer of 2014.

Currently, along with Public Speaking, I am teaching Advanced English 12 which focuses on World Literature, as well as grammar and writing.

My other responsibilities for Coughlin include being the drama advisor/director for the Coughlin Players, Varsity Head Softball Coach, and Graduation Project Advisor.

It is a passion of mine to have a positive impact on as many young lives as possible, and it is pleasure to take on all of these responsibilities inside and outside of the classroom.

About Public Speaking

Designed in the summer of 2014 as an added opportunity to the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Flex Schedule, this course on Public Speaking provides an overview of Public Speaking, including skills, interpretation, analysis, speech writing, speech presentation and more.

Throughout the school year, the course covers an introduction to Public Speaking, informative speaking, persuasive speaking, and dramatic interpretation in speaking. It has been, and will continue to be a welcomed addition to the Wilkes-Barre Area School District course options.

Throughout the school year, students will also focus on the functions of grammar and will work on their writing skills by completing major essays, a literary analysis paper, and short constructed responses.
