Welcome to May 2020 & Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to our teachers!

Please join me while recognizing our teachers for their dedication to our students and school, their compassion, and tireless efforts to assure our students receive the best educational experience possible! We hope the students enjoy participating in this week’s online spirit activities and share photos with their teachers??

Heights families, we thank you for your continued cooperation during our school closure and remote learning time. Please continue to stay in touch with your child’s teacher(s) and ensure the assignments are completed and submitted according to specified timelines. In addition, all students should participate during the teacher’s scheduled live session weekly.

The 3rd quarter grades will soon be finalized as of March 13th, 2020-the last day school was in session. Teachers have previously provided students with the opportunity to complete any 3rd quarter missed graded assignments until the end of this week.

The Wilkes-Barre Area School District’s 4th quarter grading guidelines are attached below and are also available on the school district’s main website for review. It is imperative that our students continue to participate and complete assignments to promote continued learning achievement.

 4th Quarter Grading

If students are not participating and/or submitting assignments, phone calls are made on a weekly basis to the parents/guardians of non-participating students. Our goal is to work together during this time, maintain communication, and promote continued educational and social-emotional experiences for your children. You are not alone, your children’s success is always on our minds and in our efforts.

Week of April 26th, 2020
Hello Heights-Murray Elementary School Families!
I encourage you to stay positive during these challenging times. We are resilient people, and I am confident we will continue to persevere!

Last week, all teachers began to track attendance and participation of students. It is imperative that students continue to complete teacher assigned work/activities and participate during any scheduled online/live class meetings. We understand that families may experience circumstances that impact the student's availability to complete work/participate at a given scheduled time. If there are circumstances, please communicate them to your child's teacher(s). Communication is imperative at this time, especially when we rely on phone calls, emails, and live technology-based sessions to communicate.

To best meet the unique needs of our students, how the learning process will look for the remainder of the school year is established by the teacher and grade level teams. Kindergarten through 2nd grades utilize a variety of resources while communicating through Class DoJo or email, while 3rd through 6th grades utilize Google Classroom as the main means to faciiltate instruction, in addition to communication apps. New content is being introduced, which is why it is so imperative that students participate to promote continued academic growth.
*Since our instruction relies heavily on access to the internet and technology, please keep your child's teacher informed if there are technological difficulties so that we may assist you.

Although the school building is closed, we hope to maintain family engagement virtually. Our 'Heights-Home away from Home' feeling for students will not be forgotten; therefore, I'll begin to discuss with teachers how we might facilitate family engagement opportunities virtually. Stay tuned...

Student meals will continue to be distributed daily at the South Side entrance, from 11:30am-1:00pm.
We understand that all families are impacted by the pandemic differently. If you are experiencing difficulty, please check the school district website for available resources (i.e. food distributions, emotional support, etc.) or contact myself or Mr. McKenna by calling the school's main office: (570) 826-7255.

During the weeks moving forward, please check this site for updates and information, and most importantly, stay healthy and safe.

Be well,
Mrs. Myers
