Wilkes-Barre Area School District News Article

Winter Sports Information

Good Afternoon Student-Athletes,

I wanted to pass on the information I have concerning this upcoming Winter Sports Season. Please remember, this information is as of today, and as we have learned through this process, it can change daily. Please forward this information to anyone interested in participating in sports this Winter, I am only able to reach out to those students who emailed me their sign up information.

The first Day of mandatory practice for Jr. High Sports will be Tuesday, December 1st.
(Practice times and locations will be announced as soon as possible.)

I have attached a form for the NEW PIAA Physical. Information has been added as a result of Covid.  If you have already received a physical for a Fall Sport, you will need to sign and return pages 4, 7, and 10 to be eligible to participate.

If you need a physical, the entire packet must be completed and signed by a parent and doctor to be eligible to participate. (Section 9 is only for Wrestlers)

The Wilkes-Barre Area School District will provide physicals on Thursday, November 19th at the Geisinger Orthopedic Center, 1175 East Mountain Blvd, in Plains.
Physical Schedule is as follows:
5:00-5:30pm - Junior High Girls and Boys Basketball
5:30-6:00pm - Varsity and Jr. High Wrestling
6:00-6:30pm - Swimming and Indoor Track
6:30-7:00pm - Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball

Please follow this schedule to make it as easy as possible for the Doctors.
Please fill out the entire physical packet prior to arrival.
Please remember to wear a mask.

If you do not have access to a printer, copies of this physical packet are available in the Main Office of Solomon Plains Jr. High School.
You can also go to your own family doctor to have the physical completed.
You will not be able to participate without a copy of the physical on file with the Athletic Department.

If you have any questions, simply email MIss Galella.
Also, I have been informed that this year there will only be one team for freshman boys and girls basketball, and one team for boys 7/8th grade basketball and 7/8th grade girls basketball. This is absolutely NOT to discourage anyone to participate, I just wanted all involved to have the information prior to the season.

Hopefully we are able to begin winter sports as scheduled!
Stay healthy and safe!!
Miss Galella
