Wilkes-Barre Area School District News Article

Art Showcase

Art

Greetings Solomon-Plains Elementary School,

As you know, the Wilkes-Barre Area School District added art education to the K-5 elementary curriculum this school year. I have been honored with this opportunity to serve as Solomon-Plains Elementary School’s Art teacher. In this role, I have seen our student scholars' mature right before my eyes. Our art curriculum has really opened doors for the students to engage in an enjoyable process that helps develop motor skill, encourages communication through language skills, fosters social skills, and combines decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness to show amazing growth over the past few months.

Along with our artistic projects, students are exhibiting confidence, along with perseverance and focus, that leads to collaboration through cross curricular activities that enhance character development and  the strengthening of math and science development. There have been such refreshing changes in the students’ moods and their outlooks on school experiences since the art program has resurfaced. The art room has become a release of positive energy and a welcome relief for the students where they can be creative and expressive while enjoying every moment. The remarkable positive change has sparked such anticipation in these students  that they chatter in the halls about how eager they are for the following week's class. Art has become a true delight for everyone in our school setting.

Throughout the school year, students have used mixed media art as a fun and creative way to engage with art styles and techniques. It is with great pleasure that I extend this invitation to you to attend our first annual Solomon Scholar Art Showcase. The showcase will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. It will begin in the school cafeteria, extend into the main lobby and weave through the first floor hallway. The event will allow our guests to view a collection of fabulous student-created artwork of our Kindergarten through 5th grade students as well as a school wide artistic tribute to America! It is my hope that you will be able to take advantage of this special opportunity, which will allow us to share our love for artistic expression with you!

Thank you for your support!
