NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING TO:  ALL RESIDENTS OF WILKES-BARRE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT, LUZERNE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA  
 
Please take notice that a public hearing will be held by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District in the auditorium of GAR Memorial High School, Grant & Lehigh Streets, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, for the purpose of reviewing all relevant matters relating to the proposed permanent closure of James M. Coughlin High School, effective   for the 2021-2022 school year.  An additional public hearing will be held fifteen (15) minutes after the conclusion of this hearing for the purpose of reviewing all relevant matters relating to the proposed permanent closure of Elmer L. Meyers High School, effective for the 2021-2022 school year.   These public hearings are being held pursuant to requirements of the Pennsylvania School Code of 1949, approved March 10, 1949, as amended and supplemented, including amendments made pursuant to Act 38 of 1984, approved April 4, 1984 (24 P.S. Section 7-780).   All residents and taxpayers in the School District are invited to attend the hearing.  There will be a public comment period at the end of the hearing during which comments on closure may be made by residents and taxpayers in attendance.  Anyone wishing to provide written testimony on the closures, should submit it to the Secretary of the Board of School Directors of the School District before 12:00 Noon, May 4, 2021 at the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Administration Building, 730 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania 18711-0375, testimony and comments will also be received from the floor at the hearing.   Individuals will need to be signed in five (5) minutes prior to the start of each hearing.  The time allotted to each individual to comment at the hearing will be limited to five (5) minutes, additional written comments regarding the closure will be received by the Board Secretary until 12:00 Noon, on Friday, June 4, 2021 (30 days after hearing) at the above address.
