Olivia Pizzella, an 11th grade student at Coughlin High School and member of the Junior Leadership Class of 2018 chaired project “Bark in the Park 5k for the SPCA” on Saturday, April 14, at Kirby Park. Exceeding the project’s monetary goal, over 100 participants took part in the event. All money raised will go toward the purchase of animal beds at the Luzerne County SPCA.
The Junior Leadership Program, a branch of Leadership
Wilkes-Barre, offers students the opportunity to work with adult leaders
through day-long seminars over a nine-month period. It focuses on creating leadership skills in
areas such as media, government, and civic engagement, citizenship, diversity,
and the justice system. Junior Leadership
promotes service, leadership, and community engagement.
Each student leader must complete a community service
project which challenges them to use their leadership skills to address
community needs. Olivia, and her group, chose
a cause close to their hearts; helping animals.
The first female to cross the finish line was Caitrin
Mullusky, daughter of our very own English Teacher, Ms. Johnson. With a 23:37 finish, Caitrin surpassed the
competition to cross the finish line.
Congratulations on a job well done!
