Superintendent's Update February 26, 2022
Good Afternoon,

The CDC changed its school guidance yesterday based on new county metrics in terms of Community Levels.

COVID-19 Community Levels are a new tool to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest data.

Community Levels can be Low, Medium, or High and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

Luzerne County is now at a “Medium” Community Level.  CDC is recommending universal school masking only in communities with high levels of diseases.

Therefore, we will make masks optional beginning Monday, February 28, 2022.  We will continue to monitor the community levels. At any time we move into the “High” threshold, masks will become mandated again

Additionally, the CDC also announced, effective February 25, 2022 they will no longer require the wearing of masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs.  Our District will follow these guidelines and no longer require masks (they are optional) on our STA buses based on our current Community Levels.

Have a great weekend
