Title I, Part A

Title I is a 100% federally funded supplemental education program that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies to improve educational opportunities for educationally deprived children. Title I programs are designed to help children meet the state content and performance standards in reading, language arts, and mathematics.

The best thing parents can do to support a child's academic achievement is get involved in the school community and to understand the various Rights to Know.

Parent and Family Engagement

The Wilkes-Barre Area School District recognizes that partnership between families and schools are a strong foundation for educational success. Each school, in collaboration with parents, writes its own Parent Engagement Policy.

For more information, visit the Parent and Family Engagement Policy page.

Right to Know

Parents have a right to know the extent of their child's progress. This can be achieved by parent-teacher meetings and active involvement through homework assignments as well as encouraging reading and conversation with their child.

For more comprehensive information, please visit the Right to Know page.

Federal (Ed-Flex) Waiver

Wilkes-Barre Area School District has applied for a Federal (Ed-Flex) Waiver in regards to Title I, Part A Section 1113 ‘‘(3) RANKING ORDER.  If approved, the waiver will allow the District to concentrate Title I funds in grades K through 8.  Title I funds will enable the District to continue to provide services to our most at-risk population in these grade levels by providing reading intervention specialists, professional development, parent engagement events and appropriately identified resources. The expected outcome is that student performance on the PSSA English Reading Assessment will increase by a
minimum of 2% per year.
