Wilkes-Barre Area Student Jimena Flores-Garcia Wins Senator Marty Flynn’s Legislative Competition; Winning “BUMP Act” to be Presented to Pennsylvania Senate

PLAINS, PA (April 10, 2026)— Jimena S. Flores-Garcia, a senior at Wilkes-Barre Area High School has achieved a significant milestone in student advocacy. After being selected for Senator Marty Flynn’s 2025 Student Ambassador Program, Flores-Garcia and her team emerged as winners of the program's legislative challenge. Their winning proposal, the Banked Use for Maternity Protection (BUMP) Act, will now be formally presented by Senator Flynn to his colleagues in the Pennsylvania State Senate for consideration.

WILKES-BARRE, PA - (April 9, 2006) – Jimena Flores-Garcia and Ensley Fernandez, students in the prestigious Wilkes-Barre Area Business Academy, were recently awarded the Pennsylvania Senate Good Citizen Award. The Business Academy is an immersive program focusing on academic subjects and competitive business practices that prepares students for post-secondary education or the workforce through hands-on learning and community engagement.
