The Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce along with regional chamber partners hosted a National Civics Bee competition on April 26 at the LCTA headquarters in Wilkes-Barre. The competition, which is aimed at improving civics education and literacy among middle school students, their families and communities featured 14 middle-school students from across Northeastern Pennsylvania participating.
The three finalists were Micah Anderson, first place, GAR; Isla Watkinson, second place, Crestwood and Olivia Fritz, third place, Crestwood. The first-place winner received a $500 cash prize and will advance to the state competition hosted by the PA Chamber. The state winners will receive various prizes, including $1,000 cash for the first-place student.
